How to use the dice roller

Pick a preset roll or choose Custom and enter your own notation. Each result shows the dice rolled, the dice kept or dropped when that matters, modifiers, and the final total.

Custom dice notation

The custom roller supports the notation most RPG players already use: 1d20, 3d6, 2d8+5, 2d20kh1, 2d20kl1, and 4d6dl1. Spaces are ignored, so "3d6 + 2" works the same as "3d6+2".

• kh keeps the highest dice.
• kl keeps the lowest dice.
• dh drops the highest dice.
• dl drops the lowest dice.

Common RPG uses

Use d20 for checks, attacks, and saves. Use d6 pools for damage, random tables, and character creation. Use d100 when a game asks for percentile results or a table with one hundred entries.

For character scores, 4d6 drop lowest gives a quick heroic spread. For a grittier table, use 3d6 instead.
